Have you ever wondered what the Harry Potter books would be like if Hermione was the main character and not Harry? Her backstory is really awesome; she is so much smarter than Harry, and she is willing to do anything to help her friends and family.
Hermione has an amazing backstory. Especially for being a secondary main character. There is nobody else in her family that is a wizard, this makes her a “Muggle.” Muggles don’t have any wizarding blood in them. A lot of wizarding families think that “Mudbloods”, which is a really rude term for Muggles, are a disgrace to the wizarding society. The Malfoys are an example of a wizarding family that “thinks that they are better than everybody else because they’re what people call pure-blood.” Hermione’s parents are dentist’s. Her life was fairly normal until she turned eleven years old. She got her Hogwarts acceptance letter. Her parents were so excited for her, she was really excited and eager to be a witch. Since she knew nothing about the wizarding world, so when she got her books and her other school supplies she also got some extra books to learn about the wizarding world. In the first book, Hermione says that she memorized all of the school books by heart.
Have you ever noticed that Hermione is actually a lot smarter than Harry is? She’s pretty much smarter than Harry in every subject, well except for Quidditch. Even before they became friends, she was smarter. For example, in the first book Hermione says that she got extra books for school, and she even memorized them BY HEART! That’s just amazing! Harry and Ron had looked at each other in surprise when Hermione said that. They hadn’t memorized any of their books. Hermione is really dedicated to being a wizard, she is also a really good student. Even in the first book at the start of potions with Professor Snape; Hermione knew all of the answers to the questions that Snape was asking Harry. In the Order of the Phoenix movie, Hermione uses the Confundus spell on Cormac to make sure that Ron stays on the Quidditch team; but when she performs the spell, she doesn’t use a wand. Dumbledore’s one of the few wizards that is able to do that. Only a wizard of great skill can do that. She’s so smart that everytime Harry decides to do something reckless like leaving Hogwarts immediately after he has the vision of Voldemort was using the Crutasius curse on Sirius Black, Harry’s godfather. Hermione tells Harry that they should first find out if Sirius was even at Grimmauld Place; the house that Siris and the Order of the Phoenix’s headquarters, and Sirius lives in. There are just too many examples of why Hermione is smarter than Harry.
Hermione is willing to do anything to help her friends and protect them. In The Order of the Phoenix, Hermione was the one that started Dumbledore’s Army. Harry, Hermione, and Ron knew that Professor Umbridge wouldn’t teach them anything useful. In fact, the first day that they went to their classes in the fifth year; Professor Umbridge said to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class; “Wands away and quills out, please.” Everybody knew that whenever they weren’t using their wands, the class wasn’t going to have an interesting lesson. Hermione then realizes that, in the course aims, “There’s nothing up there about using defensive spells.” Professor Umbridge later says that they won’t need to use the spells in her classroom, and that as long as they have studied the theory of how to perform the spell that they will “be able to perform the spells under carefully controlled examination conditions.” Meaning that the first time they’ll get to do the spells would be during their exams (as Parvati Patil mentions). Hermione tells Harry and Ron that since they aren’t going to learn anything useful in Defense Against the Dark Arts that Harry should teach them. Harry thought that he would be helping Ron and Hermione, but then she said that it would be a better idea to teach anybody that wanted to learn about the Defense Against the Dark Arts. They finally meet in the Room of Requirement, and there they find everything that they need to practice the Defense Against the Dark Arts. Hermione knows that the Hogwarts High Inquisitor Professor Umbridge wouldn’t “be happy that they would be learning Defense Against the Dark Arts And using magic and practicing the spells, counter curses and jinxes” without her supervision and they were also having club meetings without her permission. Hermione is willing to break the rules of the school if it will help her and her friends to protect themselves. At the end of the fifth book; Hermione is ready to leave Hogwarts DURING school to help Harry find and save Sirus from Voldemort. In the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Hermione sets professor Snape’s cloak on fire during Quidditch match because she and Ron had seen Snape “jinxing” Harry while Harry was flying on his broomstick. Then in the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Hermione breaks school rules and steals from Professor Snape’s Potion ingredients to make a Polyjuice Potion to find out if Draco Malfoy was the one that was hurting half-blood students.
Some may argue that Harry Potter is the better protagonist, and not Hermione Granger, Harry has an interesting backstory. “At the age of one year old, Harry had somehow survived a curse from the greatest Dark sorcerer of all time, Lord Voldemort, whose name most witches and wizards still feared to speak. Harry’s parents had died in Voldemort’s attack, but Harry had escaped with his lightning scar, and somehow- nobody understood why- Voldemort’s powers had been destroyed the instant he failed to kill Harry.” He is brave; he went into the Chamber of Secrets with Ron and Professor Lockhart, but then they got caved in and Harry went in by himself to find Ginny, Ron’s little sister. Harry is also willing to do anything to help his friends and family. In the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry has a vision that Voldemort is using the Cruciatus Curse on Sirius, Harry’s godfather, and Voldemort says that he will kill Sirius in the end. Harry wants to leave Hogwarts immediately after the vision to help save Sirius.
Hermione Granger would be a better protagonist than Harry Potter. Her backstory is amazing for being a secondary character, she is a very skilled Muggle witch. She is also a lot smarter than Harry in pretty much everything, well, except for Quidditch. She is also willing to do anything to help and protect her friends, even if it involves setting her Potions teacher on fire.
