A Very Harry Essay

Neville Longbottom is a character in the Harry Potter franchise who lives with his grandmother.  He is a shy, chubby, round-faced kid and has a hidden talent for Herbology. He is the most interesting character because he could have been The Chosen One (instead of Harry Potter), there is a lot in common with (the main character) Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom, and without Neville, they couldn’t have killed Lord Voldemort.

First of all, he could have been the Chosen One destined to destroy Voldemort. There is a prophecy that states that “The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches… Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies… and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not… and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives… The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies…”. Both of them were born at the end of July (Harry on the 31st and Neville on the 30th). Both were ‘born to those who thrice defied’ Voldemort.

Second, Harry and Neville have a lot in common. Both of their parents were in the Order of the Phoenix. The Sorting Hat could not decide which house to put them in but sorted them into Gryffindor. Finally, Both pulled the Sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting Hat and destroyed at least one Horcrux.

Finally, Harry Potter couldn’t have killed Voldemort without Neville. This needs some explaining what a Horcrux is. You put little bits of your soul into objects, but there’s a catch. Someone has to die in order to create the Horcrux. His Horcruxes were Tom Riddle’s Diary (Harry destroyed it with Basilisk tooth), Marvolo Gaunt’s Ring (Dumbledore destroyed it with Godric Gryffindor’s Sword), Salazar Slytherin’s Locket (Ron destroyed it with Godric Gryffindor’s Sword), Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup (Hermione destroyed it with Basilisk tooth), Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem (Accidentally destroyed by Vincent Crabbe using the curse Fiendfyre), his pet snake Nagini (the Horcrux that really matters, beheaded by Neville with Godric Gryffindor’s Sword) and Harry Potter (killed by Voldemort himself Avada Kedavra: the Killing Curse). Now, with all the explaining out of the way, back to Neville. He destroyed the final Horcrux, Nagini, which allowed Harry to destroy Voldemort.

In conclusion, I think Neville Longbottom would make the most interesting character because he could have been the Chosen One, he has a lot in common with Harry Potter, and without him, Harry Potter could not have killed Voldemort without him. On the other hand, with all the talking about Neville, there was an awful lot about Harry in the essay, but we already got a story about Harry. We need one about Neville.
